Introduce prepaid electricity meters.

Pakistani government Introduce prepaid electricity meters.

The Pakistani government is considering a plan to introduce prepaid electricity meters as a measure to combat electricity theft and improve efficiency in billing. This system, similar to prepaid mobile phone plans, would require consumers to pay for electricity in advance, thereby reducing defaults and theft. The initiative is part of broader efforts by the government to address challenges in the power sector, including reducing electricity costs by shifting from imported coal to local coal for power generation.

Additionally, the government is in talks with power distribution companies to implement a relief package worth Rs. 45 billion, aimed at easing the financial burden on electricity consumers.
