Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, has filed a petition seeking acquittal in the high-profile £190 million case. This development comes after the Supreme Court’s recent decision on amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws. The case accuses Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, of misappropriating Rs50 billion (equivalent to £190 million) that was returned to Pakistan by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
Khan’s legal team argues that the case should be dismissed due to the Supreme Court ruling, which restored the NAB amendments, effectively protecting decisions made by the cabinet during his tenure. These decisions, according to his lawyers, are no longer subject to accountability under the revised laws. However, the court has not yet ruled on the jurisdiction issue and adjourned the case until September 10.
The prosecution, representing NAB, maintains that the accountability court still holds jurisdiction and has asked for the case to proceed as scheduled.
