Former Senator of Jamaat-e-Islami Mushtaq Ahmed Khan was detained from Islamabad.
Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was detained by Islamabad police today during a protest march organized by his party in support of Gaza. The march, held near D-Chowk, aimed to express solidarity with Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict. However, the gathering violated Section 144, a legal provision in Islamabad that prohibits unauthorized public assemblies.
The Islamabad administration had earlier issued a notice, warning that any gatherings without prior approval would be illegal and that violators would face legal consequences. Despite these warnings, JI proceeded with the protest, leading to the arrest of more than 20 participants, including Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and two women.
The police action was swift, with participants being apprehended on the spot. The district administration reiterated the importance of complying with the law and discouraged further public demonstrations without proper authorization. The arrests have sparked discussions regarding the enforcement of Section 144 and the limits on public protests in Pakistan.
Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, who served as a Senator representing Jamaat-e-Islami, has been a vocal critic of government policies and an advocate for various causes, including Palestinian rights. His detention has drawn attention to the ongoing tension between law enforcement and political activists in Pakistan, especially in the context of politically sensitive issues like the Gaza conflict.
